This is something we don’t normally do -but I am posting this on behalf of our local Jewish Genealogy Group

—————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Great Britain is holding its Tenth
Northern Annual Conference in Manchester on Sunday the 13th May.
This is a full day event from 9.30am to 5.00pm with seven speakers,
exhibitors, book stalls etc. The topics covered are varied but
emphasis this year is on Jewish Military Records, to put flesh on
bones instead of just names and dates on family trees. Full details
of the program topics, timings, venue, registration fee etc can be
seen in the conference program - just send an e-mail to
lorna.kay@talktalk.net. For anyone who would be coming from out of
town, there is excellent on-site accommodation at the venue at a very
modest cost for en-suite single or double rooms with kitchen and full
facilities, as well as secure parking.

MONTH END GEDCOM UPDATE AND INFORMATION

Uncategorized Comments Off

The month end gedcom has just been uploaded – didn’t I do well to get in done on the right date and not too late in the day

One of the eldest members of the Freedman Family passed away last week (Rachmiel Cofnas) as the grand old age of 98 and we also lost his nephew Lionel Freedman in March this year

Lots been happening with data added all the time (It’s a slog but with the help of Liz we are getting there – the object is to try and fill in as much information as possible against the names we have in rather than adding new people)

There are still lots of you out there who have promised to send information and haven’t done as yet (you know who you are) so please do so – I could probably find it out for myself but given by you it will be more complete

I finally reached the end of the ‘L’ surnames although again I got side tracked with other information coming in which will be of  interest to the Freedman and the Spencer side especially this time

The Spencer/Linski side has grown and is worth taking a look it now goes back to well before 1831 all the information has been gathered by me painstakingly searching the census details which tally to the information given by members of the family

The Freedman/Levy side has also had people added to it – those being the descendant of David Michael Levy the 2nd wife of Jane

On the Knopf side a headstone picture has been added along with a marriage picture of  Weingard/Herstritt

Once again we would like you to check out your own families to see how we are doing and let us know if there is anything that needs amending – we can’t do it all on our own (please send anything be it data or pictures to sylvia at bryansyl@gmail.com and will do our up most best it include it next time

Can’t think of anything else just now  other than ‘WATCH THIS SPACE’ as more comes to light

Remember it’s your tree as much as it is ours and we want to make it as interesting as possible as a living history for our future generations – They make thank us in the long run

Mid Month Update And New Member

Uncategorized Comments Off

I hadn’t realised it was that time of the month again when i usually do an update – the weeks are going so fast

We had a request from Kate Varney who is an ancestor of the Roth Family on the Davis side and we would like to welcome her

We were sad to learn last week of the Passing away of Lionel Freedman and which all his family ‘Long Life’

As usually I’m still plodding through the surname list in order to fill in the missing gaps mainly the dates of birth if only the year – so if you would like to check your own families to see if you can expand on any of the information that is now there it would help us immensely

As the month end will be during Pesach the next update will probably be in a months time so a little out of sink next time but normal updates will resume as the year goes on

We don’t appear to be getting much response when i request pictures and documents – it would be nice to see more up to date pictures of the younger generations – (we like to keep Hyam busy – so please keep sending us stuff)

Well this was short and sweet – can’t think of anything else to add – so until next time

Happy Pesach

Month End Gedcom and Update

Uncategorized 1 Comment

Well it’s awhile since you’ve heard from me and a lot has been happening – now that the Yom Tavim are over and we are all getting back into the swing of things so am I

Lots of information has been researched and added not only by myself but with the help of Paul Traynor who is constantly working on his Poticha tree and Elizabeth Knopf who has been very active researching the Davis side of the family – 30 or so multimedia items have been added (which include Davis pictures Roth family pictures and Connor and McAlpine birth and marriage information plus draft records for Poticha family) and thanks are due once again to Hyam who does a wonderful job of linking everything in

I started looking mainly for missing dates of birth (if not full at least the year) this time i started at ‘Z’ and have worked back-wards as far as Ross surname – if your immediate or extended families fall within this area please have a look and see if anything you know of needs to be added or amended

Of the 72 named users on the online tree there are still a lot of you who haven’t  let me know as to whether or not you still wish to receive notification of what is going on – I can see those of you who regularly access it and I’m sure you appreciate what we are doing otherwise you wouldn’t bother to look – and a few comments on how we are doing would be nice – this can be done by hitting the comments link at the top or bottom of any posting you read on the blog

I think it’s time to ask Danny nicely to plot some more places on Google Earth as we are find more details of our ancestors all over the world and he hasn’t done any for awhile (maybe he will surprise us for the next update which should be towards the middle of the month)

A recap of names looked at and updated are Youngerman-Wingarten-Weingard-Waxman-Tresman (all variation of the spelling) Shonfield-Seeberg-Seaberg-Roth and Ross as well as their spouses and in-laws

Please keep the information coming in especially pictures and documents as this all helps to preserve a living history of our ancestors for our future generations

By the next update we should have divorce papers for some Poticha family and maybe a few more death certificates and naturalization documents if Paul can obtain anymore that we need

One of our other projects is to fill in as many Hebrew names as possible so if you know yours and that of any of your family and haven’t already told us please do so – of the numerous headstone pictures we have Hyam is starting to go through them extracting the Hebrew name and that of the father’s Hebrew name and adding the information to the tree this is going to be useful where we have no parents listed

So as you can see a lot has been going on in the background over the last month and we hope to continue for a long time

Think that’s all for this update – watch this space for the next one around the middle of the month

Keep up the great work…and thanks to all of you for your hard work…Sylvia, Hyam, Danny and all the others who contribute each piece of information. It is amazing how complete the various parts of the tree become as we all work to find those elusive pieces of information….
